MARTINA

BERTONCINI

ARCHITECT

I am Martina Bertoncini,

architect graduated in Politecnico di Torino in 2017 with a master thesis in Building Physics titled “From Zero Energy and Emissions Building toward Zero Energy and Emission District: enlarging the scale to achieve a low carbon future.”

After the University I started working as architect in some offices and, at the same time, I would continuing my studies firstly with a course in energy management and energy system and then, with a Master Course in the School of Sustainability (by M. Cucinella) dealing with sustainable design and principles with a practice based research approach that aims to enlarge boundaries of architecture in an holistic way.

My interest in sustainable design has grown up since first university studies and it addresses my choices since the decision to apply at School of Sustainability. There I had the possibility to understand the amplitude of the architectural practice researching implications projects have on multiple aspects of the society, the economy, the environment... Thanks to that I learned how make process and projects sustainable and innovative from different perspectives while the research based approach helped me to find connections and relationships between architecture and others sectors. In a new way of design buildings taking into account local features and world trends at the same time merging causes and effect.

The attention on buildings impacts and their social-economic-environmental effectiveness is the core of my design with the attention at the architectural quality and users comfort. It represents the aspect I am more interested in and the sector in which I would like to work and research.
